In May 2022, artist Mark Dean Veca moved into the Doolan-Larson Building as an SF Heritage artist-in-residence, where he created a new set of drawings and paintings inspired by the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood’s past and present. Veca also showcased new screen-printed editions of work created at The Space Program at his exhibition "Ornamental Illness," which took place at SF Heritage's Gallery 1506 located in the groundfloor storefronts of the Doolan-Larson Building.
In this video, filmed in the attic of the Doolan-Larson Building, Veca describes his time living and working in this historic space and in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, and his journey as an artist leading up to this residency.
